Student Assessment
The Student Success Initiatives (SSI) were created by the Texas Legislature to ensure that all students receive the instruction and support they need to be academically successful. The following brochures for 5th and 8th grade students are a parent's guide to help prepare their child for the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) testing in these grades.
Parental Involvement
Parental Involvement is defined by No Child Left Behind (NCLB) as participation of parents/guardians in regular, two-way, meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities.  At Zavalla ISD, we strongly encourage Parental Involvement.  You can be involved in your child’s education by attending PTO meetings, Parental Involvement meetings and keeping in contact with your child’s teacher regarding his or her progress.
School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is an organized group of parents and community members empowered to address issues that impact our children's health. The law mandates every school district in Texas to have a SHAC, however, there are no funds allocated to ensure its existence. SHAC's do not have any policymaking authority, they can only make recommendations.

While the roles of the SHAC may be slightly different from one community to another, there are three requirement that every SHAC must meet: they must be composed of at least 50 percent parents who are not employees of the district, they must address issues that involve diabetes, obesity and asthma, and they must advise the district on implementation of a coordinated school health program. The ZISD School Health Advisory Council meets a minimum of (2) times a year. Click here for the current members of SHAC.
