Three Angelina County Drug-Free All Stars recently attended Advocacy Day in Austin, an event hosted by Texans for Safe & Drug-Free Youth, the statewide coalition focused on tobacco and alcohol prevention for youth. The three youth in attendance were Nicholas Reyna, Lufkin HS; Jacob Quick, Zavalla HS; and Hannah Spikes, Lufkin HS. After the morning training, the All Stars went to the Capitol and met with Rep. Trent Ashby and Sen. Robert Nichols’ staff. The students shared about the dangers of alcohol to-go & ready-to-drink alcohol and talked about ways to prevent youth tobacco use, including additional funding for prevention and an excise tax on e-cigarettes. Mrs. Sparrow's Pre-K class went on a bug scavenger hunt today. The students caught a variety of insects. We are learning to describe and compare along with how caterpillars become butterflies.
